Anniversary of state same-sex law
Tuesday marked the five year anniversary of the state legalizing same-sex marriage.
This was before the Supreme Court required all states to issue same-sex licenses in June of 2015. State Senator Heather Steans of Chicago sponsored the bill and said “We must ensure we do not lose ground and in fact make progress in the fight for full, equal rights for same sex couples.”
The state law was signed on November 20, 2013 and took effect in 2014.
